Boat Speed and Why It Matters
Boating can be relaxing, thrilling, profitable, and everything in between, but buying a boat with the right speed capabilities is vital. We here at Roger’s Performance Marine want to help you get exactly what you’re looking for, so we’ve put together some information on how boat speed can be important, below. To learn more, or to see the boats we have for sale, contact our stores in Centerville and Hurricane, Utah, today!
For Thrills
If you’re hunting a high-speed adrenaline rush, you aren’t going to be satisfied with a clunky, slow boat. Any model with a max speed slower than 20 mph is probably getting crossed off your list. You should also focus on agility and easy handling to keep you in control at any speed.
For Watersports
If you’re towing a watersports enthusiast or two, you need a more balanced boat. You want to go fast enough to keep them entertained, but not so fast they can’t stay upright. The ideal middleground here is between 10 and 35 mph, though the appropriate speed will depend on who’s being towed.
For Relaxation/Fishing
However, if all you want is to enjoy the water at low speeds, or if you want to fish, a boat with high speed capabilities is going to be an active problem. The faster they can go, the harder it is to go slowly, and too much noise and turbulence can scare away fish. If this sounds like more your speed, aim for a maximum speed of around 15 mph.
