If you’ve recently made plans to spend the night on your vessel, it’s important to be sure you have everything you need before you leave the dock. Once you’re out on the water, you likely won't have the time or energy to return to shore, or all the way home, to grab a few necessities. Before the day arrives, we strongly advise reading through our article below to ensure you have everything you need for a fantastic overnight boating trip!

Food Prep

If you’re planning on spending the night on your boat, you’ll need to be sure you have enough food and water for everyone on board. While water can be easily stored in portable coolers, food can be a bit more complicated. If you don’t have access to a portable stove top, microwave, or grill on your vessel, it may be wise to prepare your food beforehand. Simple meals such as cold salads or sandwiches can be easily kept in your cooler, right alongside your water.

Weather Prep

Even on the warmest of summer nights, it’s likely to become quite chilly while out on your boat. Before you leave the dock, be sure to have enough pillows, blankets, and sleeping bags for everyone to sleep comfortably. You might also want to bring along some warm-weather clothing, such as hoodies, sweats, or even a float coat, to help keep everyone warm on chilly nights.

Emergency Prep

When camping on your boat overnight, it’s extremely important that you’re prepared for emergencies. If you or any of your passengers have medications you need to take, be sure to store them away in your first-aid kit before leaving the shore. You’ll also want to be sure that you have enough personal flotation devices for each passenger, as well as a fire extinguisher, flare, and radio, in case you need to call for help.
