There’s nothing better than kicking back, relaxing, and letting your line do all the work, especially when you’re angling from your very own fishing boat. But it’s pretty hard to fish if you don’t have all the necessities in your tackle box! We here at Roger’s Performance Marine want to help you catch as many or as few fish as you want, so we’ve put together a few of the essentials for your tackle box, below. To learn more, or if you need a fishing boat to store these items on, contact our stores in Centerville and Hurricane, Utah, today!

Lures

Different fish are attracted to different things, meaning you’ll need a variety of lures to catch a variety of fish. Unless you like repetition, you’ll want to be prepared to catch any fish you come across, so stock up on lures like:

  • Minnow imitations
  • Top-water lures
  • Spinners
  • Spoons

Bobbers

Bobbers are another vital tool to help you know when your line gets a bite. They rest on the water’s surface and, as the name suggests, bob when something pulls the line. You’ll want a classic red-and-white bulb bobber and something called a slip-bobber. In a pinch, a piece of cork with a stick through it will do!

Sinkers

In contrast to bobbers, which keep part of your line visible above the water, sinkers keep your hook and lure deeper down to tempt the fish. These get lost frequently, so you’ll want some extras. Nowadays they’re most often made with bismuth, steel, tungsten, and brass. Older ones may utilize lead, however, which is banned in many fishing areas due to toxicity.

Line and Cutters

Like sinkers, it’s easy to run low on fishing line. It can get caught on obstacles, cut by sharp objects, or just bitten off! Make sure you have a line cutter to avoid staying tangled, and plenty of extra line to replace what you lose.

Needle-Nose Pliers

These are just handy tools to have around and are great for getting hooks out of the fish you bring in. And if you happen to need to bend a wire or remove embedded items from anything, you can!

First-Aid Kit

And of course, as low-risk as fishing might usually be, you’ll want a comprehensive first-aid kit with you on every trip. Fishing hooks can end up in places they shouldn’t, and you can always fall or get cut by something else. Your kit should include:
Multiple sizes of bandage
Gause
Waterproof medical tape
Tweezers
Ointments
Antiseptics
Sunscreen
Bug spray
Nail clippers
Petroleum jelly
Painkillers
Antacids
